A new Victims Code Consultation (Ministry of Justice)
April 2026
|
The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) sought views on a new Victims’ Code, seeking to strengthen victims’ rights, enhance agency accountability, and ensure clearer, more consistent minimum service standards across the criminal justice system. MWNUK submitted evidence calling for a more trauma-informed and victim-centred criminal justice process. We highlighted the need for regular communication with victims, accessible information and interpretation services, effective needs assessments, greater recognition of individual vulnerabilities, and improved opportunities for victims to have their voices heard throughout investigations, trials, and parole processes. We also emphasised the importance of tailoring support and communications to victims' specific circumstances. |
